45 Pittville Street, Joppa, Edinburgh

41 Pittville Street in Joppa, Edinburgh, is a terrace of houses built around 1894, with later alterations. This two-storey building with an attic features eight bays and is situated on a sloping site to the northeast. The front is finished in polished ashlar, while the side elevation is harled and the rear is made of squared and snecked sandstone. Architectural details include a base course, a moulded band course, an eaves course, and chamfered arrises.

The southeast (principal) elevation showcases consoled and corniced doorpieces with deep-set panelled doors in the right bay of each house, with two-leaf doors for Nos 43 and 45. Above these doors are rectangular plate glass fanlights, flanked by glazed panels. Each house has windows on the first floor above the doors, and a full-height canted window is located in the left bay.

The northwest (rear) elevation is three-storeys high and features extensions of varying sizes, as indicated on maps. The surviving windows are plate glass timber sash and case, found only in No 45; the others have been replaced with various types, including some modern aluminium. The roof is a purple slate mansard with a platform, stepping down between Nos 41 and 43, and includes slate-hung dormers that are canted at the left bay and pedimented at the right bay. The building has coped skews with a skewputt between Nos 41 and 43, and ashlar end and mutual coped stacks.

The interiors were not seen in 1994. The boundary walls are made of squared rubble with coping.
