Description
Elmbank Lodge, located at 2 Edinburgh Road in Dumfries, dates from around 1840 and serves as an ornamental lodge with gatepiers. The lodge is a single-storey building designed in an L-plan, featuring a porch in the re-entrant angle. There is a plain gabled bay to the north that is likely an addition. The exterior is constructed of stugged red coursers with polished margins, and it has projecting eaves and gable heads adorned with decorative barge-boards. The building has an axial stack with a cornice that links twin flues, and the roof is covered with fish-scale slates and red ridging tiles.
The gatepiers are designed in a Neo-Jacobean style, consisting of four corniced octagonal piers positioned at the canted southwest angle of the walled grounds, accompanied by dwarf linking walls.
