5 Fishmarket Square, Newhaven, Edinburgh

5 Fishmarket Square in Newhaven, Edinburgh, is a mid to later 18th century, two-storey, three-bay tenement that has been recast and converted by Ian Lindsay & Partners around 1970. It is part of a terrace that includes a public house on the ground floor, with the public house at No 4 linked internally to No 6. The building features harled and limewashed walls, with a rendered and painted ground floor. It has a stepped and painted base and string course, smooth concrete surrounds and ingoes (painted at the ground floor), and projecting cills. The first-floor windows are piended and set in projecting bays that break the eaves.

On the east elevation facing Fishmarket Square, there is a two-leaf timber boarded door in the outer left bay (No 4), with single windows in the right and centre bays. There is a boarded timber door in the penultimate bay to the right (No 5) and a single window in the outer right bay. The first floor has two single windows in the bays to the left of centre and one single window to the right, set on the string course.

The west elevation, facing Wester Close, is regularly fenestrated on both floors. Both elevations feature 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is machine-made with red pantiles, a grey slate easing course, and slated piended first-floor windows. There are precast concrete skews and a mutual ridge stack to the south with a precast concrete cope and circular cans.
