1, 2 St Fishmarket Square, Newhaven, Edinburgh

1 and 2 St Fishmarket Square is a mid to later 18th century tenement that has been recast and converted by Ian Lindsay & Partners around 1970. This three-storey, three-bay building is part of a terrace and features harled and limewashed walls, with painted concrete surrounds and ingoes, and slightly projecting cills. At the rear, there is a harled turnpike stair.

On the east elevation facing Fishmarket Square, there is a boarded timber door providing ground floor entry in the outer right bay, with single windows in the central bay and the outer left bay. The first and second floors have regular fenestration.

The west elevation, facing Wester Close, features a full-height, two-bay turnpike stair in the outer right bay, which has been converted to provide access to No 1. There is a single doorway facing west in the left bay of the stair, with regular fenestration on the first and second floors.

Both elevations have 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is machine-made with red pantiles and a grey slate easing course, and there are precast concrete skews following standard detail. The building has coped apex stacks to the north and south, each with circular cans.
