Description

1, 2 St Fishmarket Square is a mid to later 18th century tenement building that has been recast and converted by Ian Lindsay & Partners around 1970. It is a three-storey, two-bay rectangular-plan structure that forms the end of a terrace. The building has an asymmetrical design and is accessed from a turnpike stair at the rear. The exterior is harled and limewashed, featuring raised and painted concrete surrounds to the openings with slightly advanced cills. There is a continuous base and string course along Main Street, while the ground floor is finished in painted render.

On the east elevation facing Fishmarket Square, there are two bays with single windows at the ground floor in both bays. The south elevation on Main Street has three bays, each with single windows at the ground floor. The first and second floors are regularly fenestrated in the outer left and right bays.

The west elevation, facing Wester Close, also has three bays and features an entrance in the projecting turnpike stair to the left. There are two single doors at the ground floor (with iron railings at the entry in the bay to the right) and a single window aligned above. A boarded timber door leads to a storage area in the re-entrant angle, with a single window above on the second floor. The main block has a single window at the ground floor in the bay to the left of centre and a small single window in the outer left bay. The first floor has a single window aligned above the ground floor bay to the left and another single window in the central bay. The second floor features a single window in the bay to the outer left.

All elevations are fitted with 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is a piended machine-made red pantile with a grey slate easing course.
