51 Mount Vernon Road, Edinburgh

51 Mount Vernon Road is an early 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay villa. It features a recessed lower section and a narrow service wing to the north, which was likely added in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from thinly coursed rubble with contrasting yellow ashlar margins and dressings.

On the west elevation, there is a plain corniced central doorpiece that dates from the time of the addition, featuring a deep-set two-leaf panelled door with a fanlight above. The windows are timber sash and case, with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The main cornice continues over the flanks, and there are margined and corniced end stacks. The roof is a piended slate design, which sweeps at the rear over a semi-circular stair turret.

The east elevation has a door on the right side and a 20th-century trellised single-storey top-lit addition, along with a lean-to greenhouse on the left. The north wing includes an east-facing door and north-facing windows.

The property is enclosed by rubble-built garden walls, with a block pediment marking the pedestrian gateway at the south end of the west wall.
