Description
Crocket's Land, located at 91-93 West Bow in Edinburgh, dates from around 1705 and has undergone later alterations. This is a four-storey and attic tenement that features a shop on the ground floor. The building is finished in pink harling with stone margins, which is painted at the ground level, while the rear is constructed of random rubble.
Access to the flats, known as Crocket's Land, is via stone steps leading to a timber panelled door set within a corniced and pilastered surround on the outer right. To the left, there is a later shopfront that includes an inset glazed door, cast-iron gates, flanking windows, and a dentilled cornice with decorative consoles. The window margins extend horizontally to create decorative panels, although the windows in the outer left bay have been blocked. The building features two windows in a curvilinear gable, along with two oval flight holes positioned above. The gabled rear elevation is irregularly fenestrated.
The windows are fitted with four-pane glazing in timber sash and case frames. The building is topped with a corniced apex chimney stalk that has a circular can. The roof is covered with grey slates and terracotta ridge tiles.
