Description
101 and 103 West Bow in Edinburgh is a late 17th to early 18th century tenement building that stands three stories tall with an attic and features five bays. The building has a shop on the ground floor and is stepped to follow the slope of the street. It is finished in yellow harling with stone margins and includes a base course and a continuous hoodmould over the shop openings.
A steep forestair with spiral cast-iron railings is located to the right, leading to a timber boarded door with decorative cast-iron hinges that provides access to the flats on the first floor. The upper storeys have windows grouped in pairs, with a single small window above the door. The crowstepped wallhead gable features two windows topped with fleur-de-lys finials, and there is a square opening above that has been blocked, which previously ventilated the roof space.
The building has 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows and is covered with graded grey slates.
