Description

1 Greenhill Gardens is a double villa built around 1850, featuring two storeys and four bays, along with single-storey pavilions. The pavilion at No 1 has been raised sympathetically to a storey, and there is a rear projection at the centre. The building is constructed from cream sandstone with an ashlar front, while the rear and sides are made of squared and snecked stugged rubble. It has a base course, a band course above the ground floor, and chamfered reveals.

The front elevation is symmetrical, with the inner bays each featuring a corniced doorway that has a panelled door and a rectangular fanlight (which is a 2-pane at No 1), leading to a tiled vestibule. Above the doorways, there is a single window at the first floor. The outer bays have full-height canted windows topped with half-pitched roofs. The two-storey pavilion at No 1 is slightly recessed and has single windows on both the ground and first floors. The single-storey pavilion at No 3 has a single window and a piend roof.

On the rear elevation, there is a two-storey extension in the centre bays with a piend roof and a wallhead stack, along with a single-storey extension with a half-pitched roof adjoining it. The remaining bays have single windows, and there are various small modern extensions. The south and north elevations are blank, featuring short shouldered wallhead stacks at the centre.

The villa has timber sash and case windows with 8-pane glazing, and a dark grey slate piend roof with metal flashings. There are three wallhead stacks and a moulded eaves gutter.

The interior was not seen in 1992. Surrounding the property, there is a tall rubble wall with semi-circular coping at the rear and sides, and a low wall at the front with flat coping, along with gates and railings leading to No 3.
