Description
2 Greenhill Gardens is a villa built around 1855, featuring two storeys and an irregular plan. The exterior is made of snecked and stugged cream ashlar, which has been cleaned. It includes a base course, a dividing band course, overhanging eaves, and raised lugged window surrounds.
The west elevation, facing Greenhill Gardens, has three bays with a recessed addition to the outer right. A sun porch, unfortunately added to the front of the original porch in the centre bay, is supported by a square pier and features a cornice and a stone balustraded parapet. Above this, there is a gabletted single window at the first floor. The outer left bay has a prominent full-height canted window that sweeps to the eaves, with carved consoles supporting a stone balcony and a decorative iron balustrade. The third bay contains single windows, with the first floor window also gabletted. To the outer right, there is a recessed piend-roofed addition that includes a garage at ground level and a single window above.
The north elevation has two bays, with an advanced full-height canted window in the outer right bay, similar to the west elevation, featuring carved consoles and a decorative iron balustrade. The outer left bay contains single windows, with a gabletted window at the first floor.
The east elevation has an M-gabled design with an advanced service wing to the outer left. It features a round-arched margin-paned stair window and single windows at ground level on the right return of the service wing, along with a single window above that breaks the eaves in a pedimented dormer head. The windows are plate glass sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has corniced gablehead stacks to the south and east, with tall moulded octagonal cans. The interior was not seen in 1991.
The gatepiers and boundary walls consist of corniced ashlar gatepiers at Greenhill Gardens, with one inscribed. There is a pedestrian gateway with slapping, and high coped rubble boundary and mutual walls.
