Description

Bloomfield is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay gabled villa located on Rosneath Road in Cove and Kilcreggan. The building has a rectangular plan and features two single-storey pavilions at the rear. It is constructed from whinstone and red sandstone rubble, with polished sandstone dressings, a battered base course, rusticated quoin strips, and a string course.

The west elevation displays three symmetrical bays with single-storey flanking blocks. The central entrance bay features a two-leaf panelled door and a wooden bargeboard supported by corbels, with a sandstone panel above the door. The flanking symmetrical gables are slightly advanced, each with a canted window at the ground level and a cast-iron balustraded parapet. At the first floor, there is a broad, timber transomed and mullioned tripartite four-centred window. The symmetrical, piend-roofed flanking pavilions have a blocked bipartite window on the left return of the outer left block and a large opening into a store on the right return of the outer right block.

The east elevation features three bays, with windows at the ground level on the outer right and left, and a stair window breaking the eaves at the centre, which has etched glass and lying-pane glazing. At the centre, there is a single-storey, piend-roofed jamb that is rendered and lined with rusticated red sandstone margins. A casement window is located to the outer right, along with a door and two small windows at the left return. There are two large windows on the outer left and a small window on the outer right at the right return. The roof is covered with grey slate and features a brick wallhead stack with a can that has stop-chamfered arrises. A lean-to plastic porch is attached to the outer right pavilion, and there is an etched window at the centre of the outer left pavilion.

The front elevation has plate glass timber sash and case windows, while the rear elevation features 12-pane sash and case windows. The grey slate roof has lead flashings and advanced eaves, with stugged, coped pink sandstone ridge stacks and decorative cans.

Inside, there is a half-glazed inner door, cast iron balusters on the plain stairs, and plain cornices.

The boundary wall and gatepiers consist of rusticated piers with triangulated vermiculated caps, a whinstone wall with harl pointing, and quartz boulder coping.
