Description

The Western Lighthouse at Newhaven Harbour in Edinburgh was built in 1869 by James Dove & Company and was first lit in 1878. It is the final addition to the pier extension completed in 1876. The lighthouse is made of cast iron and features a four-tiered, octagonal shape with a coved and stepped cornice. The upper stage is swept and includes portholes and a projecting balcony supported by brackets. It has a glass light and decorative window designs, with a cast-iron cap that culminates in a semi-circular finial. The interior was not seen in 1996.
