Description
Napier House, located at 27 Thistle Street in Edinburgh, is an early 20th-century building that was refurbished around 1995. It is a three-storey structure with a raised basement and a mansard attic, situated on a corner site. The building features a canted five-storey tower at the corner, constructed from coursed bull-faced cream sandstone ashlar with polished red sandstone dressings. The ashlar tower includes a plain door, oval oculi at the ground level, cill courses, and a pavilion roof topped with a weathervane finial.
The Thistle Street elevation has four bays and a base course that incorporates basement windows, along with corniced dormers that have small alternating pediments. The return elevation is irregular with two bays. The rear elevation is made of dressed rubble and has five bays, with garages added to the basement and plain dormers above.
The windows are timber sash and case, featuring eight panes, with three panes at the ground level. The building has ashlar coped skews, grey slate roofing, and ashlar stacks. Inside, the space has been refurbished into open plan offices.
