Description

1784-90; 19th century shops at ground. 3-storey basement and attic, 6-bay classical tenement on corner site. Droved cream sandstone ashlar (partly painted) with polished dressings.

HANOVER STREET ELEVATION: 4-bay block to S with architraved common stair door to right; adapted early 19th century 2-bay shop to left with slender pilasters and dentilled cornice; later 19th century shop to right with panelled pilasters and consoled cornice (presumably formerly the same as above); shop in basement. At 1st floor 3 left bays with architraved and corniced windows, that to right paired. Single piend-roofed dormer. Projecting 2-bay N block with 2 shops at ground and consoled cornice; tripartite windows to upper floors; further consoled cornice with solid parapet and 2 large gabled wallhead tripartite dormers.

THISTLE STREET ELEVATION: coursed rubble gable with 3 bays displaced to left; early 19th century pilastraded shopfront at ground.

Timber sash and case windows; plate glass and 4-pane. Ashlar coped skews; rendered stacks; grey slates.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.

RAILINGS: plain cast-iron railings; barley-twists to stairs.
