Bridge, Dowall Burn, Shore Road, Cove

The bridge at Dowall Burn on Shore Road in Cove was designed by Alexander Thomson in 1874. It is a single span bridge that carries Rosneath Road over the mouth of Dowall Burn. The structure is built of whinstone with harl-pointing and features stugged ashlar dressings. The plain parapet wall is made of whinstone and has ashlar saddleback coping, which curves to a large consoled drum terminal on the south shore-side parapet, topped with a raised circular geometric cap. The bridge has a semicircular arch, with voussoirs outlined in whinstone and sandstone, and is flanked by narrow weep-holes and decorative niches with sandstone margins. Shallow buttresses support wide wing walls, and the soffit is made of harled rubble. On the north side of the road, there is a plain whinstone parapet wall that continues from the boundary wall, featuring ashlar slab coping.
