Description
Lucerne is a later 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay Italianate villa located on Knockderry Road in Cove. The building features whinstone and sandstone rubble with harl-pointing, along with painted ashlar margins and dressings. It has a base course and quoin strips, broad eaves supported by decorative wooden carved brackets, and round-headed windows on the first floor with moulded arch heads.
On the southwest elevation, the villa displays a three-bay façade with a decorative cast-iron balcony on curved wooden brackets that spans the front at the first floor. There is a full-height canted bay on the outer left, topped with a bargeboarded gable that breaks the eaves. Pilasters divide the windows, and there is timber boarding in the gablehead. To the right, a plain door is situated beneath a round-headed window, with a tripartite window on the outer right and a bipartite round-headed window above.
The southeast elevation features a broad gable with a door and window at the ground outer left and right, and a raggle indicating a former conservatory at the centre ground and left. The first floor has symmetrically disposed windows, with a narrow window at the centre. There is a terraced area with a modern cement brick wall.
On the northwest elevation, there is a broad gable with a blocked window at the ground to the right and a bipartite window to the left. The first floor has symmetrically arranged windows, with a narrow window at the centre flanked by other windows. A single-storey, two-bay service block is located to the left, featuring bracketed eaves.
The villa has plate glass timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with corniced and coped apex stacks, and tall paired octagonal chimney cans. The interior was not seen in 1994.
