Description
Ellemford Bridge, dated 1886 with later repairs, is a three-arch bridge that spans the Whiteadder Water. The inner elevations are made of heavily-pointed rubble sandstone, while the outer elevations feature squared and snecked tooled sandstone. The bridge has tooled and polished sandstone dressings and rendered bases on the piers. The segmental arches are adorned with polished voussoirs, and the bridge includes coursed abutments and soffits. Intermediate piers are supported by curved cutwater buttresses, and paired pilasters are advanced at the outer ends. A polished string course runs along the flat deck. On the eastern wall, there is a sandstone plaque inscribed with "Erected by the Berwickshire Road Trustees, John Turnbull Esq.... 1886." The parapet walls have round-arched coping that is splayed at both ends.
