60-62 Montague Street, Rothesay, Bute

60-62 Montague Street is a corner tenement building dating from around 1820, designed in a plain classical style. It has a rectangular plan and stands three stories tall, featuring shops on the ground floor. The building has two bays facing Montague Street to the south and six bays along Tower Street to the west, with a prominent slightly recessed bowed corner.

The ground floor is finished in painted render, while the upper floors are constructed of yellow sandstone ashlar. Architectural details include a raised base course, a cill course beneath the first-floor windows, and a lintel course beneath the corniced eaves. There is architraved, fielded rectangular-panel detailing between the upper floors on Montague Street and in two bays to the right of center on Tower Street.

On the south elevation facing Montague Street, the ground floor contains shops, with slightly recessed architraved windows on the first and second floors. The outer left corner features a slightly recessed full-height bow, with a later door at ground level and single windows above on both floors.

The west elevation facing Tower Street has a replacement timber panelled door offset to the left of center, with shops on either side. There are single windows in four bays to the left on the first and second floors, while two bays to the right are blind at both floors, featuring fielded panels.

The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, and corniced wallhead stacks on the west side, along with various circular flues.
