15-16 Battery Place, Rothesay, Bute

15-16 Battery Place is a mid to later 19th century, symmetrical, two-storey house with an attic and three bays, designed in a plain classical style. It forms a near pair with the adjacent No 14. The building is constructed of painted sandstone rubble with painted margins, featuring a raised base course and a lintel course beneath the corniced eaves. It has narrow pilastered quoins, painted sandstone mullions, projecting cills, and a pilastered entrance.

The northwest elevation, which faces the entrance, has stone steps leading to a recessed replacement door at the center of the ground floor, topped by an opaque-glass fanlight. The doorpiece is pilastered and includes a plain frieze, cornice, block pediment, and a raised keystone. Above the entrance, there is a single window aligned at the first floor, and on the outer left and right, there are full-height canted bays with three-light canted windows at both the ground and first floors. Above these, there are three-light slate-hung dormers, and a small bipartite round-arched dormer is located at the center.

The dormers feature modern glazing, while the remaining openings have two-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, featuring raised stone skews, a coped apex stack to the southwest, a corniced apex stack to the northeast, and octagonal chimney cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is bordered by a low coped painted rubble wall along Battery Place, with a replacement timber pedestrian entry gate.
