Description

11 Argyle Place is an early 19th-century, symmetrical, two-storey house with an attic and a three-bay rectangular plan, designed in a plain classical style. The exterior is made of painted coursed rubble sandstone with ribbon-pointing and painted margins. It features a raised base course, a lintel course beneath the corniced eaves, and a blocking course. The building has pilastered quoins and a pilastered entrance with projecting cills. There is a single-storey lean-to addition on the outer left, with random rubble on its sides.

The entrance elevation has steps leading to a central entrance that features a replacement glazed aluminium door with an opaque fanlight, surrounded by a pilastered door surround with a decorative frieze, cornice, and block pediment. There are single windows in the ground floor flanking bays to the left and right, and a three-light canted window in the ground floor of the outer left bay (the addition). The first floor has single windows in all bays, while the outer left and right bays feature three-light canted dormers, and there is a piended single dormer in the centre.

The ground and first floors have replacement aluminium glazing, while the dormers retain two-pane timber glazing. The roof is a grey slate-hung Mansard style, with raised stone skews and corniced apex stacks at the north and south ends, along with various circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by a whitewashed low coped sandstone boundary wall along Argyle Place. There are corniced, square-plan gatepiers at the outer left and right, and a replacement cast-iron pedestrian entry gate.
