Description

21 Minto Street is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey house with a basement and later alterations. It features a symmetrical classical design with three bays and has a single-storey wing attached to the north. The building is constructed of cream sandstone ashlar, which is slightly stugged at the basement, single-storey wing, and first floor, while the ground floor is polished. The sides and rear are made of coursed rubble, and the south side is harled. It has a base course, a cill course for the architraved first-floor windows, and a cornice with a blocking course raised at the centre.

The west elevation, which is the entrance, has steps leading to a central doorway with a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. This doorway is flanked by engaged Ionic columns supporting a corniced doorpiece. Above the entrance, there is a single window on the first floor. On the ground floor, there are single windows set in round-arched panels on the outer left and right, with additional single windows on the first floor above. The single-storey wing has a large central window in an advanced panel.

The south elevation features single central windows on both the ground and first floors. The east elevation, facing Grantully Place, has irregular fenestration, including a three-light canted window on the outer left of the first floor and a three-bay box dormer above.

The windows are made of plate glass and timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has piended slopes, with corniced wallhead stacks and moulded octagonal cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The boundary walls consist of a low coursed and coped wall along the street with replacement railings, and a high rubble wall to the north that terminates in a panelled pier.
