Description

Earlier 19th century with later 19th century and modern additions.

2 storey, 3 bay symmetrical classical house; 2 storey wings adjoining to N, S and E. Cream sandstone ashlar, harled to N. Base course; cill course to architraved 1st floor windows; cornice and blocking course raised at centre.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central doorway; panelled door; plate glass fanlight; Ionic columns to advanced, pedimented doorpiece; single window to 1st floor above. Advanced, corniced tripartite windows to ground floor outer left and right; single windows to 1st floor above. Wing to S: single storey to W, 2 storey to rear; 3 bay at ground, 2 bay at 1st floor. Base course; cornice and blocking course to both floors. Advanced central bay at ground; Doric pilasters to blind round arched panel; pedestrian gateway in round arched panel to outer right; round arched window in bay to outer left. Single windows to both bays to 1st floor above. 2 storey wing to N: base course; string course; dividing band course; cill course to 1st floor window; cornice and blocking course. Full height advanced central panel; single round arched window at ground; single architraved window to 1st floor above.

N (GRANTULLY PLACE) ELEVATION: single, central windows to ground and 1st floors.

E (GRANTULLY PLACE) ELEVATION: central doorway; modern door; tripartite stair window above; full height canted windows in flanking bays. Single windows to both floors of 2 storey wing to N.

E wing: 4 bay N elevation. Doorway to outer left; single window to 1st floor above and to both floors in remaining bays. E elevation: tripartite window at ground floor and to 1st floor above; deep bracketed cill with cast iron balustrade to 1st floor window.

Predominantly plate glass, timber sash and case windows; some modern pivot windows. Grey slate piended roofs; corniced wallhead stacks; moulded cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1996.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND PIER: low coursed and coped boundary wall to street; high rubble wall to S terminating in pier with decorative cap; replacement railings.
