Railings And Pedestrian Gate, 43 Minto Street With Boundary Walls, Edinburgh

This property consists of railings and a pedestrian gate at 43 Minto Street, along with boundary walls, dating from the early 19th century. It features two-storey and basement, symmetrical 12-bay classical terraced houses with advanced terminal blocks. The exterior is made of cream sandstone ashlar, with rustication at the ground floor and coursed rubble on the sides and rear. Architectural details include a base course, a dividing band course, a cill course for the first-floor windows, a cornice, and a blocking course that is raised at the center of the terminal blocks.

On the entrance elevation, the three-bay terminal blocks are advanced at the outer left and right. There are doorways in bays 1, 6, 7, and 12, with a later advanced timber porch added to No. 40. The doors are panelled with plate glass fanlights above, and there are single windows above these doors. The remaining bays feature single windows on both floors.

The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass. The roof is a grey slate piended style, with a coped wallhead and mutual stacks, along with moulded cans.

The boundary walls are low, made of coursed stone and coped at the top, with replacement railings. Original cast iron railings are present in the areas, and there is a pedestrian gate adjoining to the north.
