Description

This building is a bank located at 34 Minto Street in Edinburgh, dating from the earlier 19th century. It is a two-storey and basement, four-bay, rectangular-plan classical house. The exterior is made of cream sandstone ashlar, which is rusticated at the ground level, while the sides and rear are constructed from coursed rubble. There is a dividing band course, a cill course, and architraves around the first-floor windows, along with a cornice and a blocking course that is raised at the centre.

On the entrance elevation, the doorway is situated in the bay to the right of centre and features a two-leaf panelled outer door with a plate glass fanlight above. The porch is supported by Doric columns and pilasters and has a cornice. Above the porch, there is a single window on the first floor. Additionally, there are single windows on both floors in the outer left and right bays.

The windows are made of plate glass and timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with corniced wallhead stacks and moulded cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by high rubble boundary walls to the north and south, with replacement railings in the areas. There is a pedestrian gate located to the north and a night safe built into the wall to the south.
