20 Minto Street, Edinburgh

20 Minto Street is a pair of classical houses built in the earlier 19th century, with a modern extension added to the rear. The buildings are two stories high and feature four symmetrical bays. They are constructed from cream sandstone ashlar with rustication at the ground level, while the sides and rear are made of rubble. Notable architectural details include a base course, string course, dividing band course, and a cill course for the first-floor windows. The first-floor windows of No 19 are adorned with cast iron window guards featuring palmette and anthemion patterns, and there is a cornice with a raised blocking course at the center.

The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, has engaged Doric columns flanking recessed, segmental arched doorways in the central bays. No 20 has a plate glass fanlight above its doorway, while No 19 features a simplified umbrella fanlight. There are single windows above the doorways on the first floor, and additional single windows in segmental arched panels flanking the doorways.

The windows are plate glass, timber sash, and case style. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with a coped wallhead stack on the north side.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by a low coped and coursed boundary wall along the street, with higher rubble walls to the north and south. There are replacement railings and pedestrian gates adjoining the houses to the north and south.
