Description
57 and 59 Park Road in Brechin is a large mid-Victorian free-style villa built in 1868. It is a tall, two-storey building with an attic. The south elevation features a projecting gable on the right, which has a two-storey, three-light canted bay with a platformed roof adorned with brattishing. There is an open single-storey porch at the angle, supported by stilted segmental arches on naturalistic Corinthianesque columns. This porch has a cornice and a parapet decorated with a crest and urns. The entrance door is set within a semicircular arched moulded architrave and is topped with a fanlight.
To the left, there is a double round-arched bipartite window with architraves that converge on Corinthianesque column mullions. Above this, on the first floor, are two segmentally arched windows: one directly above the bipartite window and the other above the porch. The right-hand projecting gable on the west elevation also features a similar bipartite window and a first-floor window. The attic window has a corbelled sill, and the left-hand bay contains bipartite windows.
The east elevation includes a tall round-headed window above a projecting cornice, with a modern door inserted below it, along with two additional windows on both the ground and first floors. There is a single-storey and attic range to the east with two windows and a bipartite dormer. The roofs are slated, with finialled skews and gabletted skewputts, and a Velux rooflight is present on the front elevation.
The property is complemented by square ashlar gatepiers with caps (though the finials are missing) and a low garden wall with coping. A sundial is also located in the garden.
