Description
59 Southesk Street in Brechin is a Victorian villa built in 1858, notable for its single-storey attic and garret design with an eccentric character and an ashlar front. The building features a central projecting entrance bay with an arched, cavetto-moulded doorpiece that is pilastered and topped with an ogee Jacobethan gablet. This gablet includes a single window, skewputts, a finial, and is covered with fish-scale slating. To the left, there is a three-light canted bay and a canted dormer, while the right side has a single window. A semi-octagonal corner bay with two storeys and three windows is also present. The gable facing Bank Street has a single window with a rubble finish. The front elevation has lying-pane glazing, while the gable features 12-pane sash windows. The roof has recently been simplified, with the roofs of the canted bay, dormer, and angle turret removed and replaced by flat roofs.
