West Lodge And Gate Piers, Baldovan House

West Lodge and Gate Piers at Baldovan House is a single-storey lodge built in the later 19th century, featuring an irregular plan and distinctive woodwork. The structure is made of stugged, snecked rubble with ashlar dressings and has a grey slate roof. The windows have painted stop-chamfered margins, but some have modern frames and some mullions have been removed. The lodge has deep eaves with decorative exposed purlin-ends and plain bargeboards, along with an exposed king post, struts, and tie beam at the southeast gable. It is topped with grey ridge tiles and coped stacks.

On the southeast (front) elevation, there is a door at the center with a window to the right, which is obscured by a porch that has a gable and cat-slide roof supported by decorative timber posts. To the left, there is an advanced gabled bay with a window that was formerly bipartite, and a smaller angled and gabled window at the far left.

The northeast gable features a window on the left and a lower bay on the right with a cast-slide roof. The southwest gable is similar to the northeast gable but has a window in the lower bay. The northwest elevation has an unsympathetic addition at the center, which detracts from the appearance of the cat-slide projections on the left and right.

The gate piers and adjoining walls consist of four pyramidal-capped, stop-chamfered ashlar gate piers, one of which is in pieces, along with round-coped rubble quadrants adjoining.
