Description
East Lodge at Ardwell House is a single-storey, two-bay near square-plan gabled lodge built in the later 19th century. It is constructed from grey sandstone with cream ashlar dressings, featuring a base course, ashlar quoins, and long and short window surrounds. The eaves are timber bracketed, and there is decorative bargeboarding with finials at the gable apexes.
On the north elevation, there are steps leading to a near central advanced gabled entrance with a timber door. To the left, there is a gabled three-light window with a bracketed pentice porch, and a blank square plaque is located at the gablehead. The east elevation features a near central gabled bay with a similar three-light window and bracketed pentice porch, along with another blank square plaque at the gablehead. The south elevation has a gabled bay to the right and a small flat-roofed addition to the left. The west elevation includes a near-central gabled bay with a two-light window and a bracketed pentice porch, accompanied by a blank square plaque at the gablehead.
The windows are primarily plate glass timber sash and case, except on the south side. The roof is covered with grey slate and features corniced ridge and wallhead stacks with polygonal cans.
The boundary walls consist of low coped walls with pyramidal gatepiers and a painted timber gate. The interior was not seen in 1999.
