Description
St Luke's Episcopal Church, located at 4 Baldovan Road in Dundee, was designed by Freeman and Ogilvy (Gilbert F M Ogilvy) of London and completed in 1901. This building features a late Scots Gothic style, with a harled exterior and freestone dressings, as well as crowstepped gables. The church has a five-bay nave with three-light west windows, rectangular windows with two and three cusped lights, and a round-arched porch on the south side. The north side includes a door and three three-light windows, along with small lozenge and slit windows at a lower level.
A massive ashlar buttress rises into a pinnacle at the junction of the nave and chancel on the south flank. The two-bay chancel is elevated due to the sloping site and includes a south transeptal chamber with square-headed windows featuring two cusped lights and a large traceried east window. There is a similar buttress and a flat-roofed vestry on the north side. The church has a slate roof, which was originally covered with old stone slates, and features cathedral pane glazing. The interior is simply designed yet distinctive. Additionally, there is a later hall with a harled pedimented door and a swept roof without crowsteps, along with random rubble-built boundary walls.
