Balmuirfield House Mill And Sluice

Balmuirfield House Mill and Sluice is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey, L-plan plash mill. It is constructed of rubble sandstone with stugged ashlar dressings, pink ashlar quoins, and features a grey slate piended roof.

The south elevation is asymmetrical, with a door at the center, a window to the left, and three windows to the right, along with a boarded opening at the first floor. There is a blank gable on the right return.

On the west elevation of the northern range, there is a blocked cart entrance on the right and a hay-loft door at the center that breaks the eaves with a piended roof. An entrance with a sliding door is located at the left return gable.

The east elevation of the northern range has a boarded-up door at the center and a window with security bars to the right.

The north elevation features a small window on the left, with a drive shaft and wheel protruding off-center to the left.

Inside, there is a five-stall stable with timber trevises in the northern range.

The mill has a breast-shot wheel located on the south side, with transmission through a chamber under the road adjacent to the south elevation of the mill. The sluice is located on the west, with the lade covered on the right.
