Description
The Coach House at Balmuir House dates from the late 19th century, with early 20th century additions to the north and west. It is a single-storey structure, with an additional attic, featuring a rectangular plan that has been modified into an L-shape by the additions, which include a coach house, garage, and stables. The building is constructed of rubble masonry with stugged dressings and has a slate roof, while the brick and timber additions have a piended slate roof. It features moulded bargeboards and distinctive chevron-boarded doors.
On the south elevation, there is a central gable with two-leaf sliding doors. To the right, a higher gable has two boarded-up windows on the ground floor, a hayloft door above with hatch-boarded doors and corbelled cills, five ventilation holes at the apex, and a single-shouldered stack that skews to the right. There are also two ventilator windows on the right return elevation, and a later gable on the left with two-leaf sliding doors.
The north elevation features a gable on the left with a door on the right, a ventilator window in the centre, and a hayloft door with apex ventilators similar to the south elevation. To the right, paired gables are advanced, each with a multi-pane window, and there are garage doors in the left re-entrant.
Inside, some walls are boarded.
