Description
The dovecot at Balmuir House dates from the earlier 18th century and features a rectangular plan in a lectern style. It is constructed of rubble masonry with large, irregular pink sandstone quoins and has a corrugated metal roof. The side elevations include a rat course that is stepped, and the flat coped skews have moulded skew ends.
On the southeast elevation, there is a doorway located at the center, framed by pink sandstone margined quoins and door pins. Asymmetrically placed at the eaves is a flight hole with the remains of a perch shelf.
Inside, the dovecot contains stone nesting boxes and consists of a single chamber.
