83 High Street, Montrose

83 High Street in Montrose is an earlier 19th-century tenement building that stands three stories tall and has an asymmetrical three-bay plan, with a shop on the ground floor. The exterior features lined render with plain margins.

The west elevation, which is the principal front, has an inter-war shopfront at ground level. This shopfront includes a polished black granite frame with strip pilasters, metal framed plate glass featuring period lettering, a splayed entrance, and a canopy at the first-floor cill level. The first and second floors are symmetrically fenestrated.

The south elevation is adjacent to 85 High Street.

The north elevation is next to 79 High Street to the west and extends east along a close. It features a single bay with a pilastered and corniced doorpiece, an altered window on the second floor above, a blocked window in the re-entrant angle to the right on the first floor, and another altered window on the second floor. There is also a later flat-roofed addition with tile hanging above, which adds a fourth storey.

The east elevation has a harled gable end with a flat-roofed addition above. The building has later timber sash and case windows with plate glass glazing on the front, while the rear features a variety of window styles. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there is a stone skew on the south side.
