Description
87 High Street in Dalkeith is an earlier 19th-century, three-storey, two-bay terraced tenement that features a shop on the ground floor. The building is constructed from squared and coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, raised margins, and angle margins, and it has an eaves course and cornice.
The east elevation facing High Street has a modern timber-clad shop front with a door on the left that interrupts the first-floor cills. The first and second floors have regular fenestration.
On the west elevation, there is a modern three-storey gabled addition extending westward.
The north elevation is attached to Nos 89 and 91 High Street, while the south elevation is connected to Nos 83 and 85 High Street.
The building features plate glass glazing in the sash and case windows and has a truncated stack on the south side. The roof is covered with purple slates and has coped skews.
