Description
3 Edinburgh Road in Dalkeith is a late 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay gabled hall. The building features squared and stugged painted rubble with ashlar dressings. The ground floor openings have simply moulded surrounds with basket arches, while the first floor has segmental-arched windows with chamfered reveals. There is a base course and an ashlar fascia band with a moulded string course above.
On the north elevation facing Edinburgh Road, there is a two-leaf panelled door with an over-hanging plate glass fanlight at the center, flanked by two 19th-century shop windows. The first floor has regular fenestration, and there is a blank panel with a moulded surround in the gablehead.
The east elevation is blank above an adjoining single-storey block. The west elevation is connected to No 5 Edinburgh Road, which has a separate listing. The south elevation is adjoined to neighboring buildings.
The first-floor sash and case windows have a plate glass glazing pattern. The roof features coped skews, which are scrolled at the apex of the north gable, and a coped narrow gablehead stack to the north. There is a roof light on the east pitch, and the roof is covered with grey slates.
