Description
2 Edinburgh Road in Dalkeith is an earlier 19th-century, three-storey, three-bay tenement that features a shop on the ground floor. The layout of the bays is grouped towards the left on the first and second floors.
The south elevation is made of coursed rubble and has been reconstructed with ashlar at the second floor, while the ground floor is painted. The north elevation is harled and includes ashlar dressings, with a lintel course at eaves level and raised margins.
On the south elevation facing Edinburgh Road, there is a shop door at the center flanked by large plate glass display windows in the outer bays. The first and second floors have regular fenestration. The north elevation, facing Bruntons Close, features a piend-roofed square stair tower on the left side, with a door and two windows above on the right return, and regular fenestration in the bay to the right.
The west elevation is adjoined to No 4 Edinburgh Road, while the east elevation is connected to Nos 95-99 High Street. The first and second floors have 12-pane glazing in sash and case windows, with coped skews and ashlar gablehead stacks. The roof is covered with greyslates.
