Description
113 High Street in Dalkeith is an early 19th-century, three-storey and attic tenement building with three bays. The ground floor features a shop and a canted stair tower at the rear. The east elevation is made of ashlar, lightly washed with render and painted at the ground level, while the west elevation is harled. The north elevation is constructed of rubble, rendered, and lined from the second floor. The building has a base course, a lintel course at eaves level, and raised margins.
On the east elevation, the ground floor has a five-bay shop front with a door located in the second bay from the right and two-pane fixed windows in the remaining bays. The first and second floors have regularly spaced fenestration, with smaller windows on the second floor.
The west elevation features a stair tower at the center that rises to serve the attic, with a door to the north and two windows facing west. There is a door in the bay to the right, and the remaining bays have regular fenestration.
The north elevation has blocked openings at the ground level and two modern windows shaped at the first floor.
The south elevation is adjacent to Nos 105-111 High Street. The building has replacement plate glass glazing, two tall piended and canted slate-hung dormer windows with scalloped lead flashing detail on the east pitch, and a modern flat-roofed dormer window on the right of the west pitch. There is a pyramidal roof over the stair window on the right of the west pitch and a pyramidal roof on the stair tower. The building features coped skews, a rendered gablehead stack on the north side, and is covered with grey slates.
