Description
3 Edinburgh Road in Dalkeith is an earlier 19th-century, three-storey tenement that was reconstructed in 1990. It features a narrow three-bay design, previously housing a shop on the ground floor. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and has a cill course at the first floor, along with a moulded band course between the first and second floors. It is topped with an eaves cornice and a blocking course.
On the east elevation facing High Street, the bays in the centre and right are slightly advanced at the first and second floors. There is a segmental-arched pend entrance in the left bay, which has moulded impost blocks and is boarded at the ground floor. The first and second floors have regularly spaced fenestration, with flat windows at the first floor.
The west elevation features a rendered block aligned on an east-west axis, which is adjoined to the left and centre. This section is rendered and has crowstepped detailing to the west. There is also a further rubble and pantiled range attached to the west. A pend passage and a small window are located at the second floor in the right bay.
The north elevation is adjoined to No 93 High Street and 1 Edinburgh Road, while the south elevation is adjoined to No 87 High Street. The building has plate glass glazing in its sash and case windows, coped skews, and gablehead stacks, with the southern stack intact and the northern stack truncated. The roof is covered with grey slates, and it retains its original rainwater goods.
