79 High Street, Dalkeith

77 High Street in Dalkeith is an earlier 19th-century, three-storey, three-bay terraced tenement with a shop on the ground floor facing High Street and a two-storey range at the rear. The building is harled with painted raised margins.

The east elevation, which faces High Street, features a squared pend opening leading to Miller's Close, with remnants of one pal stone in the right bay. The remaining bays have a modern shop front with a door to the left. The first and second floors have regular 12-pane timber sash and case windows.

The west elevation is gabled and harled, featuring a broad brick stack. The left bay has windows above the pend. The roof has a coped skew, interrupted by the gabled facade of No 75 High Street, and includes a brick stack to the south. The roof is covered with grey slates, displaying a diamond motif in the center of the east pitch.

The two-storey range, also early 19th century, is constructed of rubble with cement pointing and is attached at a right angle to the right of the west elevation. It has a small-pane glazing pattern in the sash and case windows and brick stacks. There is a narrow splayed doorway to the left of the north elevation, with an adjacent doorway to the right featuring a timber boarded reveal. Evidence of a former forestair can be seen on the gabled west elevation, along with a blocked door to the right at the first floor.
