Description

The Albert Bar, located at 46 Market Street in Montrose, is an early 19th-century public house designed as a two-storey, five-bay rectangular building that consists of a pair of connected terraced houses. The front and side are finished in painted lined render, while the rear features painted harl with plain margins.

The east elevation, which is the principal facade, has a symmetrical three-bay section on the left. This section includes a central entrance framed by pilasters, with a modern illuminated pediment above. A window is centered on the first floor, with additional windows in the flanking bays at both the ground and first floors. The right side of the elevation has a two-bay section featuring a doorway to the right and an extra window to the left at ground level.

The south elevation is a gable end with a window on both the ground and first floors, offset to the left, and a small window in the gable head, offset to the right. The north elevation is adjacent to a neighboring property, while the west elevation features a single-storey house that adjoins to the right.

The building has four-pane timber sash and case windows on the first floor, with etched and decorated glass at the ground level. The roof is pitched and covered with grey slate, featuring coped skews and skewputts. There are tall rendered gablehead stacks on the north and south sides, which are corniced, as well as a stack on the party wall. A 19th-century wrought-iron and pierced steel name board is positioned above the ground floor at the corner of Market Street and New Wynd.
