51-57 Bridge Street, Montrose

51-57 Bridge Street in Montrose is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey, five-bay former hall that is part of an irregular terrace with shops on the ground floor and a two-storey wing at the rear, forming an L-plan. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar, painted at the ground level, with irregular courses above, and rubblestone on the sides and rear. It features a fascia board and cornice above the ground floor, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course with a raised central panel.

The west elevation has a 19th-century shopfront at the ground level, with two doorways at the center and rectangular fanlights flanking plate glass windows with low stallrisers. The outer bay to the left contains a door, while the outer bay to the right has a window. The first floor is symmetrical with five large windows that are equally spaced.

The north elevation adjoins 47/49 Bridge Street on the right and has a two-storey, three-bay wing to the left. The south elevation adjoins 59-63 Bridge Street. The east elevation shows the gable end of the east wing on the right.

The first floor features 12-pane timber sash and case windows on the front (west) side. The roof is covered with grey slate, has coped skews, skewputts, and modern rooflights, along with broad brick gablehead stacks. The ground floor is occupied by shops, while the first floor has not been seen.
