Gowanlea, South Street, Aberchirder

Gowanlea is a late 19th-century cottage located on South Street in Aberchirder. It is a single-storey building with an attic, designed in a T-plan layout and featuring three bays. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked granite, accented with ashlar dressings. The central entrance has a panelled door topped by a stone-bracketed cornice and a letterbox fanlight. On either side of the entrance, there are canted windows at ground level. Above, the attic contains two canted, piend-roofed dormers that are slate-hung and adorned with billet moulding. The windows throughout the cottage are sash and case style, featuring a 4-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates, and it has ashlar coped skews with moulded skewputts, along with coped ashlar stacks that have decorative cans. The front garden is enclosed by a low ashlar coped wall, complemented by decorative cast-iron railings and a gate, while the side boundaries consist of rubble coped walls.
