Description

The dovecot at Durn House in Portsoy is likely from the 17th century. It is a tall, rectangular structure built of rubble, now covered with modern harl. The building has boulder footings and a single heavy rat course, with longer elevations facing north and south. The south front features a doorway with ashlar margins at the center, along with a smaller shuttered pigeon entrance above it. Each gable has a single round vent, and the roof is finished with crowsteps and slate. Inside, there are approximately 500 nesting boxes lining the interior.
