Description
Greystone House, which includes a shop on the ground floor, is a building from the later 19th century located at 1 and 3 Old Castlegate in Banff. It has a quadrilateral plan and features a narrow south-facing shop facade at 40 High Street. The building is two stories high with an attic and has irregular bays that face Castle Street and Old Castlegate. It is constructed from dark local whinstone, with contrasting ashlar dressings and margins. The street frontage along Old Castlegate is irregular, featuring a round-headed recessed doorway with a similarly shaped stair window above it, along with an additional doorway to the right. There are two canted wallhead dormers facing Old Castlegate, and the windows are mainly timber sash and case with four panes. The building has coped stacks and a slate roof.
