Description
The Muckle Hoose is a mid to late 18th century, two-storey, three-bay house located at 39 Sandend. It features a small later projecting single-storey wing. The main structure is built of rubble with contrasting painted margins and long and short detailing, while the wing is harled. The entrance is centrally located, with later flanking bipartite windows. The first floor has regular window placement, and there are ground and first floor windows in the seaward gable. The rear elevation includes three ground floor windows and one near the centre on the first floor, some of which have 12-pane glazing. The house has end and rear wallhead stacks and a slate roof, which includes a modern loft roof light. Additionally, there is a small low single-storey, narrow two-bay projecting wing at right angles, featuring a door beneath a swept tarred corrugated-asbestos roof.
