Description
Fordoun School, built in 1889, is a single-storey building with a symmetrical shallow E-shaped front. It is constructed from hammer-dressed coursed stone, featuring polished ashlar dressings. The outer gables have stepped three-light segment-headed windows with slim shafts and a segmental pediment above the central light. The central gable contains a shouldered two-light window with a broad mullion, flanked by narrow lights, all beneath a stepped hood mould. The recessed links include a segment-headed window and a shouldered door with a rectangular fanlight. The side elevations feature gables with two-light windows and two additional windows. The glazing is small-paned. The roofs are slated, with crow-stepped gables topped with finials. The enclosure consists of a part stone wall and part railings on a stone base, with square ashlar gatepiers.
