Description
Fordoun Parish Church in Auchenblae was designed by John Smith between 1827 and 1829. This Neo-Perpendicular church features a rectangular plan with five bays and a tower that rises to 93 feet at the west gable. The tower has three tall stages, supported by stepped diagonal buttresses, and is topped with an arcaded parapet, central and corner crocketted pinnacles. The lowest stage includes a four-centre arch doorpiece, while the second stage has traceried windows with hoodmoulded clock faces above. The belfry openings are tall, four-centre arched with wooden Y tracery and ogee hoodmoulds, complemented by transomed four-centre arched windows also featuring Y tracery. The flanks of the tower are treated with stepped angle buttresses and pinnacles. Inside, the church boasts a horseshoe galleried layout.
