Description
This is a house and stable range located at Glassaugh, likely built in the mid-18th century, with some earlier materials and later modifications from the early to mid-19th century. The house is two stories tall and has a symmetrical five-bay façade, while the stable range is single storey with a loft and consists of six bays. The exterior features modern harl with chamfered ashlar margins, and the stables are made of rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The main entrance is centrally located, with regular window arrangements; the first-floor windows are slightly smaller than those on the ground floor. The rear of the house has five first-floor windows, while the south gable includes two ground floor and two first-floor blind windows. The stables have two doors and four windows on the ground floor, along with three loft openings. All windows are fitted with modern six-pane casements.
The house has hipped and corniced stacks on the end and rear walls, and a shallow piended slate roof. The former stables have a gabled slate roof with projecting eaves. A high walled passage connects the rear of the house to the service quarters of the mansion, with one wall of the passage being part of the walled garden.
Inside, there is a plain staircase with simple turned balusters. A doorway linking the first-floor passage to the former stable loft was uncovered during recent restoration work. The building was converted into a dwelling house in 1989.
