Description
The Boyne Hotel, located at 2 North High Street in Portsoy, is a building from the mid to late 18th century that has undergone significant alterations. Originally designed as a two-storey structure with an attic, it featured three bays and an advanced central bay. The building has since been raised to a full three storeys and now has a steeply pitched modern mansard roof. The exterior is constructed of heavily pointed rubble with painted ashlar margins.
The central entrance is highlighted by a lugged, moulded, and corniced doorpiece. The windows are arranged regularly, with the attic window in the centre gable being enlarged and featuring rendered margins, flanked by mansard dormers that sit under shallow catslide roofs. The glazing consists of 12-pane timber sash and case windows.
The building has a return rubble gable facing Culbert Street, with coped end stacks and a slate roof. The rear of the building has been much altered, including a rear extension.
